Cardiff South and Penarth: By-election on 15 November

A by-election for Cardiff South and Penarth has been formally declared after a writ was moved in Parliament.

It comes after MP Alun Michael stood down to contest the police and crime commissioner election in south Wales.

Polling for both elections - and in the parliamentary seats of Corby and Manchester Central - will be held on Thursday 15 November.

Eight candidates have so far declared an intention to stand in Cardiff South and Penarth. Nominations remain open.

They are Stephen Doughty (Labour), Robert Griffiths (Communist), Andrew Jordan (Socialist Labour), Bablin Molik (Liberal Democrat), Luke Nicholas (Plaid Cymru), Anthony Slaughter (Green), Craig Williams (Conservative) and Simon Zeigler (UKIP).

Mr Michael is contesting the election for police and crime commissioner for the South Wales Police area alongside Michael Baker (independent), Caroline Jones (Conservative) and Tony Verderame (independent).
