South Wales Police say they want to speak to a driver who may have witnessed a collision in which a young mother died on Sunday.

Tara Mackie, 25, a mother-of-one, died after she was struck by a car on Cardiff Road near Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, about 09:20 BST.

A 24-year-old man arrested at the scene remains on police bail pending further inquiries, said the force.

Ms Mackie, from Barry, was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, but was later pronounced dead, said police.

Her family have paid tribute to her saying: "Tara was a wonderful mother, daughter and sister, and everyone's best friend.

"She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her."

Police said they believe a vehicle travelling towards Dinas Powys overtook a pedal cyclist near to the collision, and the driver may be able to help them.

Sgt. Neil Williams said: "I want to stress that this person is being treated as a witness and not a suspect.

"We're urging the driver of this vehicle to contact police. We believe they may have seen the collision so hold vital information about the circumstances of the incident."

Officers are also appealing to anyone who can assist in identifying the driver to come forward.
