Newport M4 clear after crash near Brynglas tunnels

Tailbacks of up to six miles (9.6km) have been reported as one lane is closed.

Congestion has now cleared on the M4 in south Wales after a collision near the Brynglas tunnels at Newport on Monday morning, says Traffic Wales.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a car spinning across the carriageway from the central reservation to the hard shoulder.

One lane was closed due on the westbound carriageway between J26 A4042/A4051 (Malpas Road) and J27 B4591 (High Cross) but has since reopened.

Six-mile (9km) tailbacks were reported.

Nearby roads were also congested.

These included the southbound A4051 Malpas Road to Bettws Lane (at Bettws Lights) and westbound to J24 A48 / A449 (Coldra).
