Newport 1980s life revisited in photo exhibition
Scenes of Newport during the 1980s are being exhibited as part of a celebration of 100 years of student photography in the city
The Newport Survey was an annual project by students at the Newport School of Art and Design documenting life in the town
The initial aim of the project was to document family life and the way social and economic factors shaped it

At a time of recession, students took inspiration from the photographers who portrayed the American people during the 1930s Depression
People still enjoyed themselves despite hard times
Changing fashions are highlighted in the exhibition
