Conner Marshall: Family pay tribute to 'brave young man'

The family of a teenager who died after an attack at a south Wales caravan park have paid tribute to a "brave and caring young man".

Conner Marshall, 18, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, was found in a critical condition at Trecco Bay Caravan Park, Porthcawl, on Sunday.

A family tribute said: "We draw strength that Conner was and is brave, protective and loved unconditionally."

A Caerphilly man, 27, has been arrested in Glasgow on suspicion of murder.

The family tribute added: "We take great comfort knowing that Conner was a unique, caring and compassionate young man with a warm, infectious smile complete with a cheeky wink.

"We are immensely proud that Conner chose to help others in his belief that 'life goes on' by deciding to donate his organs."

'Brutal attack'

Mr Marshall died on Thursday at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales.

He had been staying at the caravan park with friends and spent Saturday night in bars in and around Porthcawl.

Police said the group returned to the caravan before midnight when detectives believe Mr Marshall decided to walk to the beach.

He was found at 07:00 GMT on Sunday with multiple injuries to his body.

Det Supt Paul Hurley, of South Wales Police, told a press conference in Cardiff Bay on Friday the arrested man was not part of the group of friends staying at the caravan park with Mr Marshall.

"Our thoughts are with Conner's family and all those affected by this tragic incident," he said.

"This was a brutal attack and I believe the suspect may have shared information with friends, relatives or neighbours."

Ysgol Bro Morgannwg in Barry, where Mr Marshall was a former pupil, said it had received news about his death "with sadness".

"We extend our sincere sympathies to his family and friends," a statement read.
