Flowers have been left for a teenager, and aspiring model, who died after being hit by a train close to her home.

Gabby Joseph, 16, was struck by a train at Briton Ferry railway station in Neath Port Talbot.

A governor at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, where she was a former pupil, said she was talented and popular with many friends.

British Transport Police said the teenager's death was not being treated as suspicious.

Ystalyfera chair of governors Eirion Richards said: "News of Gabby's tragic death has come as a great shock to everyone who knew her and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most distressing time.

"She left us last summer after her GCSE exams with a promising future ahead of her.

"We'll give everyone the opportunity to pay our respects to her when the school re-opens after the Easter holidays and support will be available for pupils and staff if required."

'Very bright'

Fashion photographer Richie Crossley of Swansea-based Chic Production had worked closely with Gabby on several shoots.

He said he and his colleagues were "gutted" to hear of her death.

"She was a stunning girl but the beauty really came from within," he said.

"She was very bubbly, funny and loved by lots of people.

"She liked modelling but school and her A levels were her priority for the moment- she was very bright."

Transport Police said they were called to the station along with South Wales Police and paramedics at 2129 BST on Monday.

The force said in a statement: "A female was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious."
