Insurance group Admiral says it is going to expand its operations in Swansea with the aim of 200 new jobs.

The company, which employs 4,332 people in Wales, is opening a third base in the city.

The company is to lease offices in Swansea Vale from the Welsh Government close to the M4 motorway.

In August it announced pre-tax profits for the first six months of the year of £160.6m, up 27% compared with the same period last year.

The company already employs 1,627 in Swansea at Admiral Group House and the Ellipse buildings at the SA1 waterside development.

It said the office at Swansea Vale in the north of the city would allow it to accommodate 600 members of staff.

The company, which also owns brands such as Confused.com, Elephant.co.uk and Diamond, also employs 2,297 people in Cardiff and 408 in Newport.

Head of property at Admiral Group, Huw Llewellyn, said: "The expansion into Swansea Vale commits Admiral further to the Swansea area allowing us to continue to employ locally based people.

"This, alongside our continued growth in our Cardiff and Newport offices, strengthens our ongoing commitment to south Wales."

Welsh Business Minister Edwina Hart welcomed the news.

"Admiral is a strategically important company that makes a significant contribution to the Welsh economy," she said.

"I am delighted to hear that it is again expanding its operations, allowing it to create new jobs.

"The Welsh Government has worked closely with Admiral Group since it opened its first centre in Cardiff in 1993 and has continued to support its growth."
