Morriston Hospital staff see results of £60m revamp

The new entrance and first revamped departments are due to open in November

Staff at a Swansea hospital have been given a look at their new premises following a £60m redevelopment.

Morriston Hospital's 1940s buildings have been revamped and extended, with the new main entrance due to open in November.

Its new endoscopy and education centre will open a month later with all remaining services to relocate by February 2015.

Staff say the new facilities will give patients a better hospital experience.

Blood tests will also be carried out in larger and more private premises next to the main entrance, while the lung function team, currently working in three separate areas of the hospital, will also be brought together.

Clinical respiratory physiologist Simon Hilldrup said: "Bringing the whole service together will make it much more efficient and give patients a better experience."

The work is part of a £102m redevelopment of Morriston Hospital, which has already seen a multi-storey car park, helipad, new road infrastructure and walkways built.
