Ex-tin works site in Swansea expected to open

New internal roads have been built and electricity, gas and high-speed broadband have been installed

A £35m hi-tech business park on a site that was once home to a tinworks is expected to welcome its first tenants in the new year.

The joint venture between Swansea council and the Welsh government will open at Felindre.

The 74 acre (34 hectares) site has been vacant since 1989.

But major work has been carried out to revamp the area, including new internal roads, providing electricity and gas and high-speed broadband access.

Up to 2,500 tinplate workers were employed at the site in its heyday.

"The closure of the Felindre tinplate works was a significant loss to the community, but this multi-million pound regeneration venture is having a truly transformative effect on the local area," said Economy Minister Edwina Hart.
