Swansea council is introducing new 20mph zones on roads around schools to improve children's safety

More speed restrictions are to be introduced to improve safety on roads close to six Swansea schools.

New 20mph zones will come into force in early 2015 as part of Swansea council's work with road safety charity GoSafe.

The restrictions will be on roads near Gendros, Mayals, Llangyfelach, Pengelli and Knelston primary schools, and Birchgrove Comprehensive School.

It comes after the implementation of 20mph zones outside 11 of the city's schools in 2014.

Swansea council's Mark Thomas said: "The introduction of 20mph speed limits outside all schools in Swansea is a commitment we have made to ensure all children going to and from school are as safe as possible on our roads."

Chris Hume, partnership manager at GoSafe, added: "The launch of 20mph rule outside schools will help road users to stop, think and kill their speed."
