Work to start to make Swansea's Palace Theatre safe

A £75,000 project to make Swansea's derelict Palace Theatre "safe and water-tight" is to start on Friday.

The theatre's Kent-based owners will be reimbursed the money in the form of an emergency grant from Swansea council if the work is completed by 31 January.

The theatre, which has hosted stars like Charlie Chaplin and Sir Anthony Hopkins, has been unused since 2006.

A council spokesman said: "The owners have started preparations for urgent work to make the building safe."
