A mining museum and two libraries that receive funding from Neath Port Talbot council have been spared from closure.

Cefn Coed Colliery Museum in Crynant and libraries in Baglan and Skewen are to remain open,, external the council confirmed.

The authority is looking to make savings of £11m between April 2016 and April 2017.

The proposal had been to cut costs by £79,000 at the libraries and withdraw a subsidy of £60,000 from the museum over two years.

The council said it was continuing discussions with supporters of the museum to reduce its subsidy and looking to the Welsh government for funding opportunities.

It said it would save £25,000 through general efficiencies at the libraries.
