Plans for a £300m waterfront innovation quarter in Swansea have taken a step forward with the purchase of land required for the development.

University of Wales Trinity Saint David plans to create a new "learning neighbourhood".

It has bought the land at the SA1 development, near to the city centre, which is owned by the Welsh Government.

The plans include purpose-built facilities for learning and teaching as well as social and recreational space.

Economy and Infrastructure Secretary Ken Skates described it as "the start of an exciting new phase in the university's development".
