Police arrest 11 in Port Talbot FC match-fixing probe

Police have arrested 11 people amid allegations of match-fixing in a Welsh Premier League match.

They relate to betting patterns on a match between Port Talbot and Rhyl on 9 April 2016.

The fixture in question saw Port Talbot lose 5-0 to already relegated Rhyl - who had not won in 17 previous matches.

South Wales Police said eight men and three women were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, including players, staff and associates.

They have been released on bail.

The matter had initially been referred to the Gambling Commission by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford said: "These arrests are a result of a thorough process of evidence gathering and close co-operation between the FAW, South Wales Police and the Gambling Commission."

Those arrested are:

• A 20-year-old man from Swansea

• A 21-year-old man from Swansea

• A 24-year-old man from Swansea

• A 27-year-old man from Swansea

• A 33-year-old woman from Swansea

• A 35-year-old man from Swansea

• A 43-year-old woman from Swansea

• A 48-year-old man from Swansea

• A 23-year-old man from Port Talbot

• A 28-year-old woman from Port Talbot

• A 28-year-old man from Neath.
