Strangford ferry to be suspended for five weeks
From Monday, the Strangford ferry, which links the southern tip of the Ards Peninsula in Portaferry with Strangford village on the Lecale peninsula will be suspended for five weeks.
This is to allow for essential health and safety works to slipways on both sides of Strangford Lough.
Although a passenger only ferry service will operate on a reduced timetable in the interim, locals say the duration of the closure will have a huge impact on work, education, sport, health and family life – with many now facing lengthy detours via Newtownards.
