New Yorkers plough through thick snow as roads become sheets of ice
Nearly 3ft (about 90cm) of snow fell in some areas of upstate and western New York on Thursday.
The winter storm prompted a state of emergency in at least a dozen counties, leaving drivers stranded on roads and bringing lingering traffic to a standstill.
