Bat goes on 150-mile road trip hidden in holiday luggage

A Glasgow couple discovered they had one more passenger than accounted for on return from a holiday in the Highlands.

After travelling 150 miles (240 km) home from Kinlochmoidart Estate in Lochailort, Alex O'Neill and his partner found a baby bat hidden in their suitcase.

The tiny bat, which has been named Raspberry, was handed into the care of bat expert Tracey Jolliffe, who helped her back to full health.

Raspberry then passed hands twice more: to Welsh family, the Darlingtons, who were heading north; and then to countryside ranger Eilidh-Ann Philipps who took her back to Kinlochmoidart Estate.

Raspberry was released at dusk on Saturday and was quickly joined by other bats from the roost.
