Should children have smartphones in school?

With no Wales-wide policy on mobile phones in schools, what is it like for parents who don't want their 11-year-olds to have one yet?

Celeste Lewis, a parent with a daughter in Year 7 in Cardiff, compromised by getting her an "old school" Nokia, but said lessons should be about education and not about smartphones.

Unlike in England, there is no guidance advising schools to ban mobile phones in classrooms in Wales, and some secondary schools, like the one Celeste’s daughter attends, are actively incorporating them into lessons.

Celeste and some other parents want the Welsh government to make a Wales-wide policy on phones in schools.
