Thousands roll into town for annual soapbox derby

Every year, Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, hosts its soapbox derby in which local businesses battle it out on the track in the town centre.

Teams make a kart that uses only their strength and gravity to get to the finish line, along with the power of many cheering spectators.

In 2023, the event brought an estimated 31,000 visitors to the town to see the 10 teams, according to Barrow BID, and this year was even bigger.

The day is all about community and everyone enjoying the speed, crashes and laughter.
