New Lib Dem MP says party will be 'tail wagging Labour dog'

The new constituency of Melksham and Devizes has its first MP, Liberal Democrat Brian Matthew.

Mr Matthew won 20,031 votes, beating the area's former Chippenham MP, Michelle Donelan.

He told the BBC that the party would keep the Labour party in check, becoming "the tail that wags the Labour dog in parliament."
