Mesmerising starling murmuration captured on film
A mesmerising starling murmuration was captured on film swooping over the sea at Cleethorpes.
The spectacle was recorded on Wednesday at sunrise by 59-year-old Bruce Martin.
"I would've taken much more video but it was so spectacular I just had to put the camera away and look at it," he said.
Murmurations occur during the colder months when starlings migrate to the UK, typically from Scandinavia.
According to the RSPB, they fly together to confuse potential predators.
Mr Martin added: "The patterns, the shapes and everything, it was just awesome."
While murmurations are formed by impressive numbers of starlings, the species is red-listed in the UK as a bird of high conservation concern due to their declining numbers, the RSPB said.
Since 1995, starling populations have plummeted by 54% in the UK.
