Moment murderer escorted off plane and arrested
Police footage has shown the moment an on-the-run murderer was arrested after being escorted off a plane landing at London's Heathrow Airport.
Thomas Dures, 21, stabbed Matthew Daulby, 19, from Liverpool, after two groups clashed outside a bar in Ormskirk, Lancashire, on 29 July 2023.
Dures fled for 18 months but eventually handed himself in at a police station in Greece before being flown back to the UK.
He was jailed for at least 23 years after being convicted of murder at Preston Crown Court on Monday.
Mr Daulby was found with serious injuries by police after they were called to Railway Road shortly after midnight on 29 July after reports of a fight.
He was taken to hospital where he later died, with a post-mortem examination finding he was killed by a single stab wound to the chest.
In a statement read to the court following Dures' sentencing, Mr Daulby's mother Angela told him: "Your cowardly actions have meant we have not been able to grieve properly, which has increased our family's trauma."
She said Dures, of no fixed address but formerly of Whalley Drive, Aughton, was "a coward who carried a knife" who wanted to avoid "owning up to murdering Matthew".
Speaking outside court, Mr Daulby's father Gary said: "Matthew will be missed every day for the rest of our lives. His loss cannot be measured in a few words.
"I leave the last words to Matthew - choose life not a knife."
Henry Houghton, of Scarisbrick, was also jailed last year for a minimum of 20 years for his role in Mr Daulby's murder.
