Sexual abuse victim says monk stole her childhood

Rebecca is one of 16 survivors who have shared their experience of child sexual abuse by a monk who lived on Caldey Island, off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

Between the late 1960s and early 1990s, Father Thaddeus Kotik abused children who lived and visited the island, a safeguarding review has found.

Kotik, who groomed Rebecca and other children with the promise of sweets, chocolate and other gifts, died in 1992 without being interviewed, charged or convicted.

Caldey Abbey commissioned the report, and its new abbot apologised for the pain and suffering caused.
