Care home residents take on challenge of learning Italian

A group of residents at a Glasgow care home have achieved an official SQA qualification in the Italian language.

Over the past 10 weeks, residents at St Francis Care Home in Govan, many of whom are in their late 80s and 90s and living with dementia, have been taking part in weekly Italian lessons.

Staff said the sessions - in partnership with Lingo Flamingo, who specialise in bringing language learning to older adults, including those living in care homes - have sparked enthusiasm and laughter.

After sitting a formal language assessment through the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), St Francis Care Home hosted a ceremony to celebrate the graduates' successes.

Staff at the care home got in touch with us through Your Voice, Your BBC News.
