CCTV shows officer clinging to car that speeds off
CCTV cameras captured a police officer clinging to the open door of a car as a suspect sped off.
Bedfordshire Police said the unnamed officer was on patrol in Houghton Regis with his colleagues on 15 March when he spotted a car believed to be linked to drug dealing.
When the driver attempted to speed off, the officer clung to the side of the car for more than 700m, before he managed to remove the keys, engage the steering lock, and arrest the suspect, the force said.
The driver was sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty of grievous bodily harm without intent, handling stolen goods and dangerous driving.
He also received a five-year driving ban during sentencing at Luton Crown Court earlier this month.
At the annual Bedfordshire Police awards ceremony, the officer was presented with the PC Jon Henry Shield.
The award is in memory of PC Henry, who was killed in the line of duty in 2007.
