New bypass for village after waiting 100 years
A traffic-plagued village will finally have a bypass built around it - exactly 100 years after such a scheme was first suggested.
Last week, North Somerset Council voted to grant contractors a notice to begin construction on the Banwell bypass.
The project was first proposed in 1927 in a bid to combat the traffic issues caused by two A-roads funnelling traffic in to the village before merging into a single lane.
The bypass plans were finally approved in 2023, but has faced major delays including the original contractor pulling out last year.
