Watch: 'Dedicated' shot putter Geoff Capes in 1972

Archive footage from 1972 shows Geoff Capes speaking of his determination to succeed as a shot putter.

The British record holder and two-time world's strongest man died on Wednesday, aged 75.

He was a Cambridgeshire policeman when he told BBC programme Nationwide it was worth spending nearly all of his salary on food to gain weight.

He said: "It works out at £20 a week for me alone for food. I'm dedicated to athletics. For me it's worthwhile to reach the top and be something."
