Amal, a Gazan mother who had a baby boy on 7 October 2023, has told BBC News the date means both pain and hope for her family.

"It's not an easy life," Amal said, as she tries to find comfort in 2nd birthday celebrations for her son.

"Our life just turned upside down that day," she said and that she will only be optimistic once a ceasefire goes ahead.

"The war planes are flying over our heads all the time, the drones, the sounds of the gunshots at night... it never stops."
