Why was Gavin and Stacey set in Barry?

James Corden and Ruth Jones have spoken about the inspiration for their hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey in the run-up to its finale on Christmas Day.

Cordon said he attended a wedding in Barry Island and that was where the idea began brewing.

"It really struck me that I'd never really seen a wedding like this on TV," he said.

"It was really these cultures coming together - very similar, and yet completely different."

Jones added she was "very proud to be Welsh" and liked to find her "inner Nessa" when she was nervous.
