Moment man who stabbed pregnant ex is jailed

A man who stalked then stabbed his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend has been jailed for 17 years and four months.

"Jealous" Daniel Popescu pleaded guilty to obsessively following Andreea Pintili before attempting to murder her as she walked home in Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, on 5 December 2023.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard the 29-year-old, of no fixed address, became fixated with Ms Pintili after finding out he would not be involved in his unborn child's life.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said it was necessary to impose an extended sentence "in order to protect the public in the future".
