1. It was Cardiff in 1958. Roger Bannister, the first athlete to run a mile in under four minutes, was a baton bearer on that occasion.
2. The baton made its first official stop of its tour of the 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth in Delhi, India, which hosted the games in 2010.
3. When it reaches Glasgow the baton will have journeyed roughly 118,000 miles - equivalent to more than four times round the planet.
4. It was a turtle, although a dolphin did kiss the baton in Anguilla.
5. About 100 people, celebrated in their communities for their achievements, will carry the baton on each of the 40 days it tours the host nation.
6. Her Majesty placed a hand-written message inside the baton on 9 October last year at Buckingham Palace. It will be read out at the opening ceremony on 23 July.
7. The baton also contains a granite "gemstone" which is given as a gift to each nation and territory it visits. The gemstones have been crafted out of rock quarried from Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde.
