ANOM: Suspects arrested after unknowingly using FBI app

Hundreds of suspects in 18 countries have been arrested after unknowingly using an FBI-run app which tracked their messages in real time.

The three-year operation, jointly conceived by Australia and the FBI, saw the app ANOM secretly distributed among criminals.

They include suspects linked to the mafia and organised criminal groups.

Drugs, weapons and cash have also been seized.
