Blackpink: Lisa blocked on Chinese social media after Paris cabaret show
- Published
Blackpink member Lisa's account on Chinese social media platform Weibo has been blocked, amid speculation it's do with her appearing in cabaret in Paris.
A notice on her account said there had been complaints it "violated laws, regulations and Weibo community agreement".
Many on social media say it could be related to her recent shows at the Crazy Horse nightclub in Paris.
Lisa performed five times at the Crazy Horse, known for risqué cabaret.
Dancers typically perform in little or no clothing - covered just in light and shadow, reviews say, external. However, Lisa's fans who watched her performances said she was covered up to some extent.
The accounts of the other three Blackpink members who did not perform at Crazy Horse - Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé - are still accessible online.
Crazy Horse has in the past collaborated with pop royalty, including Beyoncé and Kylie Minogue.
The management of Blackpink - a K-pop quartet whose lavish videos regularly attract millions of viewers - has not replied to a request for comment from the BBC.
Some of Lisa's fans and social media users in China had expressed fears that her shows could turn vulgar, something that could draw the attention of Chinese censors.
The fate of her Weibo account drew mixed reactions on Thursday.
"Finally our 'clean up internet operation' is working," one user said in a comment that was liked by more than 2,000 times on Weibo.
"It has big influence on underaged people, the country will not tolerate it," another user said.
Some voiced caution, including one Weibo user who said: "This is really scary, even this is being managed?"
Lisa's user name “lalalalisa_m“ has also been changed to "user7330454276". Her list of eight million followers also disappeared.
The account that belongs to her Baidu fan club also appears to have been suspended.
Meanwhile, Angelababy and Zhang Jiani, two Chinese actresses who reportedly attended Lisa's Paris shows in late September, saw restrictions imposed on their social media accounts.
Crazy Horse Paris has previously said that Angelababy did not see Lisa's shows.
Chinese media Redstar News reported that Zhang's team does not know why her account was restricted.
Blackpink were formed in 2016 in Seoul, and rapidly became one of Korea's most popular pop bands.
Lisa, who is from Thailand, is a social media superstar with 98 million followers on Instagram.
