A filmmaker has alleged he was roughed up by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan at a party in the western city of Mumbai early on Monday.

Shirish Kunder told a newspaper that Khan was "drunk" and pushed him and pulled his hair.

Kunder tweeted that he had "no intention" of filing a police complaint against the star.

Though Khan has not reacted directly, he tweeted that "it feels ironic when I read and see what is being said".

'Disagreement'

Kunder's wife and well-known Bollywood filmmaker Farah Khan was quoted by the Indian Express newspaper as saying that Shah Rukh Khan took her husband "by his hair, dragged him to the ground, kicked and punched him".

The couple told newspapers that Shah Rukh Khan had also threatened to "destroy" them and get them "thrown out of the [film] industry".

Farah Khan said the star may have been provoked by a tweet from Kunder that hinted his superhero movie Ra.One. had not done well at the box office.

Reports on Tuesday said Farah Khan had visited Shah Rukh Khan at his Mumbai mansion, in a meeting arranged by her brother, to patch things up.

Some reports quoted sources at the party as saying that Shah Rukh Khan had only had a "disagreement" with Kunder.

"[Shah Rukh Khan] didn't hit him or anything, he just pinned him on the couch and told him to leave him alone," an unnamed source close to the star told one newspaper.

Reports said that Shah Rukh Khan and Kunder were separated by Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who was also present at the party, after which both went home.
