A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of a woman who died after she was found seriously injured in a house in County Dublin.

Gardaí (Irish police) were called to Willow Wood Grove in Hartstown at about 11.30 local time on Sunday.

The 57-year-old woman was treated at the scene by emergency services but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A murder investigation is under way and a 60-year-old man arrested at the scene remains in custody.

Members of the garda armed support and detective units had to forcibly enter the property, RTÉ is reporting.

It is understood a number of weapons, including a samurai sword and a meat cleaver, may have been used.
