Refuge calls for funds to teach about domestic violence

More money is needed to educate children about domestic violence, Guernsey Women's Refuge has said.

The charity has been arguing its case with island politicians ahead of their meeting this month.

Deputies are due to debate the States Strategic Plan, which could see funding allocated to the project.

Co-ordinator Rachel Green said she was concerned that the child of an offender could copy the abuse they witness.

She said an education programme would prevent this happening.

"One of the hopes is that ideas are changed or bad things are broken," Ms Green said.

"You need to get the reinforcement from home to work alongside the education programme as well so it's a whole area of change that has got to take place."
