Channel Island airline trials bad weather system

The system is due to be used in a trislander aircraft during October

There could be fewer delays for Channel Island travellers during bad weather if new technology being trialled proves effective.

Aurigny Air Services is due to flight test a new Global Positioning System (GPS) system from October.

The airline has partnered up with the National Air Traffic Services to test the upgraded system.

David Rice, flight operations director, said: "We'll be able to land in worse weather conditions."

He said: "It is particularly going to benefit flying into and out of Alderney because there is no accurate landing system, as there is in Guernsey and Jersey.

"For the travelling public it's going to mean less delays and on those foggy days we're going to be able to get flying sooner than we currently can."
