Thousands of States of Guernsey workers may have to pay more into their pension fund, the island's Pensions Consultative Committee has said.

It is considering a recommendation from a UK review, which proposed higher contributions for public sector workers.

Social Security Minister Mark Dorey said changes were needed in the system.

He said it was currently too generous in terms of the contributions made compared to the pensions received.

Deputy Dorey said: "We need to look at at least equalising the contributions from the employee and the employer."
