Owners of land at the western end of Guernsey Airport's runway will face a compulsory purchase order if States members agree to the move.

The Public Services Department, which put forward the proposal, said it was a necessary step in the planned upgrade to the runway.

Only one area of private land remains in the area needed for the work.

The Le Messurier family has until the middle of January to agree a voluntary sale of its land, or it may be seized.

The States is due to discuss the move at its January meeting.
