Guernsey population policy drop-ins held

Drop-in sessions are being held as part of a 10-week consultation into managing Guernsey's population.

Deputy Bernard Flouquet, the population policy group chairman, said the aim was to answer questions and raise awareness of the consultation process.

He said: "It is really important to get people's views and opinions, before final proposals are developed."

The drop-ins will be held in the Checkers supermarket at Admiral Park from 9-12 February.

Deputy Flouquet said: "We are trying to coincide with the busy periods in the supermarket and times which we hope will be convenient for the majority of people.

"There is no escaping the fact that this is a complex subject area and the consultation document is not something that you can read through in just a few minutes.

"It does contain the information that the public need in order to help them to debate and consider the important issue of how we might manage the size and make-up of our population.

"We want to give everybody the widest possible opportunity to understand the issues and to encourage people to respond to the consultation."

The group also plans to send every household in the island an information leaflet and hold a series of public meetings.

The consultation period ends on 31 March and responses can be made online, external, by email or post to The Chairman, Population Policy Group, Sir Charles Frossard House.
