Alderney Renewable Energy (ARE) has unveiled plans to install turbines to provide power for the island.

ARE is working with Open Hydro to install seabed-mounted turbines around the Channel Island.

It said the turbines could generate enough electricity for the island and for thousands of homes in the UK and on the Continent.

ARE now requires permission from the authorities in Alderney to harness the strong tides around the island.
