Guernsey residents recycle 10,000 TV sets and monitors

More than 10,000 televisions and computer monitors have been recycled in Guernsey in nine months.

TV recycling was introduced in May 2010, six months before the digital switchover, as it was expected many people would upgrade their old sets.

The Public Services Department said it had collected 200 tonnes of equipment at its Longue Hougue site since then.

This material has been processed at a depot in Guernsey and then shipped to recycling companies in the UK.

Tina Norman-Ross, the department's recycling officer, said such electronic equipment would previously have been crushed and dumped at the Mont Cuet landfill site in the Vale.
