Guernsey minimum wage consultation launched

A consultation has been launched into possible changes to Guernsey's five-month-old minimum wage legislation.

A law making it illegal to pay anyone aged 19 or older less than £6 an hour was introduced in October.

It also allowed reductions to be made for providing accommodation and food as well as a lower rate for workers aged 16-18.

The paper puts forward options for change including whether or not the rates should be connected to RPI.

The Commerce and Employment Department said it was particularly keen to hear from employees, employers and workers in the traditionally lower paid industries such as agriculture, horticulture, care homes, laundries, cleaning and hospitality.

The closing date for response forms, which are available from Raymond Falla House or can be filed online, is 29 April.
