Electricity is restored after power cut

Power has been restored after cuts affected parts of St Andrew and the Castel in Guernsey.

Reports of problems were first received at about 1000 BST and power was restored to those are affected by 1110 BST.

Guernsey Electricity said the cause of the cut, which affected about 200 homes, was "a suspected cable fault".

It apologised for any inconvenience caused by the outage.

Bob Beebe, operations executive, said a high voltage breaker - a protection system - at a substation in the Rohais area had activated.

He said such systems had to be checked carefully before supplies could be restored safely.

Mr Beebe said: "Systems like this one that may only have to operate once in their lifetime to protect our high voltage assets.

"When they have to operate, they have to function within fractions of a second.

"Emergency engineers were called immediately to investigate and restore supplies safely to our customers."
