HMS Daring pays visit to Guernsey

One of the Royal Navy's newest warships has anchored off Guernsey.

HMS Daring, which was launched in 2006 and had its first deployment last year, is "twinned" or affiliated to the Channel Island.

Members of the public were allocated tickets in a local lottery to tour the destroyer, moored off St Peter Port.

Earlier this year the island's former Lieutenant Governor, Sir Fabian Malbon, left Guernsey on board the ship to return to the UK.

Captain Guy Robinson, commanding officer of HMS Daring, said: "As an ex-commanding officer of the former HMS Guernsey, I have particularly fond memories of the island and look forward to welcoming some of my friends and relatives on board during our short stay.

"Daring, as a very young member of the Royal Navy's fleet, may not have been around for long, but already the links established between the ship and the people of Guernsey are extremely strong.

"It is an affiliation my crew and I are very proud of and we look forward to welcoming many islanders on board during this visit."
