Plans submitted for care housing in Guernsey

The housing will be built next to the two existing residential care homes

Work on a £35m project to replace two care homes in Guernsey could start next Easter.

The plans for extra care housing, to replace States-run residential homes Maison Maritaine and Longue Rue House, have been finalised.

If planners approve the work could start in six months with the first residents moving in by March 2014.

The aim of the new buildings is to provide services to enable people to live an independent life for longer.

The plans include one and two bedroom flats, therapy rooms, a hairdresser and a restaurant.

In addition at the Maison Maritaine site there will be a day centre for people with dementia.

The States of Guernsey has already agreed to put £22m towards the first phase of the project.
