Guernsey and Jersey suffer second power cut

Guernsey and Jersey have suffered further power failures after a fault in the French grid caused the electricity cable link to trip.

It was the second time in three nights that the islands lost power due to a problem with the cable.

Alan Bates, managing director of Guernsey Electricity, said the outage was similar to the problems experienced on Monday.

He said: "The power went off at 20:04 and power was re-established at 20:52."

Mr Bates said: "Although as with Monday some low-voltage problems mean there are some isolated cases.

"Anyone who is still without power is encouraged to call the power station on the emergency number in the phone book."

Richard Plaster, commercial director for Jersey Electricity Company, said they had been given assurances from RTE, the French firm that distributes electricity, that the supply was secure, but obviously that was not the case.

He said an investigation into the problems would begin on Thursday.
