Guernsey education review to be released

A review of education services in Guernsey is to be released to the public on Wednesday, the Policy Council has said.

The report was commissioned following the release of GCSE results at the States-run secondary schools, some of which were deemed unsatisfactory.

The review is due to be discussed by the Policy Council on Monday ahead of its release.

No comment will be made until that time.

The review has been undertaken by Dennis Mulkerrin, a Guernseyman and former advisor to the UK secretary of state for education.

Mr Mulkerrin has told BBC Guernsey he would not be available for interview and that his review would speak for itself.

The review was launched in October.

If followed a formal request from Deputy Jane Stephens for a breakdown, by school, of the island's GCSE results.

Before those results were released the Education Minister Carol Steere confirmed that, based on a yardstick commonly used in the UK, La Mare De Carteret and St Sampson's High Schools had seen a drop in performance.
