Litter louts get police warning

Thirty-four people have been sent warning letters by Guernsey Police after a crackdown on littering in St Peter Port.

The force specifically targeted litter louts last week and said the campaign would be ongoing.

PC Simon Hamon said the majority of those reported had dropped cigarettes.

He said: "We have got lots of different areas we need to tackle within the community, littering is one of those and really it's just education."

PC Hamon said: "In the cases of the people reported the majority of them were within 10ft (m) of the nearest cigarette bin and they were just too lazy to go and use the bin and extinguish their cigarettes properly."
