Guernsey landline rental to increase by 8% from April

Guernsey landline users will see an 8% increase in line rental from 1 April, meaning charges of £9.75 per month.

It follows a decision by the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities (CICRA) on the fixed line services of Cable & Wireless Guernsey.

The company, which supplies all the island's residential landlines, had requested a £1 increase to £9.99.

In addition, CICRA said it was looking at giving consumers a choice in who provides their fixed-line services.

The regulator also announced a 23% reduction in peak local call charges from 4.3p to 3.3p per minute.

Michael Byrne, the deputy director general of the Office of Utility Regulation (part of CICRA), said: "We have worked hard to ensure that we have limited any increase to the minimum we believe is needed."
